Video accounts for 82% of all IP traffic (up from 73% in 2016).
This means if you want to promote your company, the best way to do it is with video.
Voice overs for corporate videos are a critical component of the whole, and here we’ll attempt to answer why.

Producing great video is still something that can cost a lot, but it doesn’t need to.
The cost of producing outstanding professional videos has come down hugely in recent years. Now, more companies than ever can afford to shoot and edit compelling promotional features in-house, or to outsource production cheaply.
Despite the march of technology though, there is still no substitute for talent, and that’s where a professional voice actor can truly represent your brand’s message and values accurately.

You might be trying to promote sales, raise investment, offer instructions, or give advice on your products and services that will also help to create interest in the brand. Or maybe you just want to create a ‘calling card’ for your company.
Whatever your objective, it still has to sound right, and that’s why the right voice over is so crucial.

Cheaper recording technology may have lowered the barrier for entry to the voice-over market, but it hasn’t suddenly created expert voice actors.
A corporate video is just like a commercial for your company, so always be sure to trust your reputation to the skilled and experienced voice artist over the enthusiastic amateur.

This video from Towersec promoting their TCU Shield security software product for connected cars, is great for inspiration.

It also goes to show what can be achieved with some imagination and the right voice.
The video tells a story of how the product easily saves a customer’s business from a malicious attack during his vacation time in Hawaii.

The voice actor holds the whole presentation together.

He delivers the script with a consistent pace and tone, adding just the right amount of whimsicality to what is a light-hearted and engaging piece, contrasting the seriousness of the product.

Virality

It’s the tendency of content to be shared online, passing from one user to the next, spreading like a virus.

Virality has quickly become one of the hoped-for outcomes of any promotional video campaign, because it is advertising where the job of distribution is done by the audience itself.

Dollar Shave Club has managed to attract 25 million views on YouTube to date for its first promotional video, despite only spending a reported $4500 on it.

The slightly anarchic nature and salty language will not be to everyone’s taste, but that doesn’t matter.

They were to the taste of the company’s target audience, namely, young professional men who the company wanted to attract by pointing out that they were spending a fortune on big brand razors in stores.

The important takeaway here for anyone planning their own promotion is not to try and mimic the style.

It’s that the company clearly know their audience.
Absurdity, profanity, comedy, and a clear sales message are perfectly combined in a way that speaks to the people it was meant to.

CEO Michael Dubin, who voices the spot (and who wrote it himself) studied improvisational comedy with the Upright Citizens Brigade and he clearly draws on shows like The Office for this part.

His delivery is perfect to the point where you think the only person who could replace him is someone exactly the same.

If your company sells baby formula, then of course this won’t translate.

Once again, it’s the knowledge of your audience, and your understanding of their needs that will guide your choice of a style and a voice that fits with your brand.
